Workshop Practical applications using GNURadio Workshop

Speaker

Muq Hussain (Qoherent)

Description

GRC-Agent is a free, open-source (AGPL-3.0) AI assistant that lives inside GNU Radio Companion. It reads the contents of an open .grc flowgraph, answers questions grounded in a searchable GNU Radio block catalog and wiki docs, and edits the graph directly through agentic tool calls. It runs fully locally with an Ollama backend for privacy-conscious or offline work, or with any OpenAI-compatible API for access to larger models. GRC-Agent is centred around five key tools for inspecting, researching, troubleshooting, reasoning, and editing over flow graph contents.

In this live workshop we will cover:

Introduction to agents and agentic loops, including what an LLM agent for GRC is, and how tool-calling, validation, and self-correction work

A review of GRC-Agent's tools and the design thinking behind each, as well as how the agent harness interacts with flow-graphs.

Setting up and running your own instance, including the fully-local option

Hands-on examples: build, edit, and debug a flowgraph together with the agent, including a few one-shot examples.

Attendees should bring a laptop with GNU Radio 3.10 and Python 3.12 installed; an SDR is optional if you want to run a live radio example. We will provide setup instructions ahead of the session and a demo environment for those who prefer to watch. Recommended experience level is intermediate: familiarity with building a flowgraph in GRC is helpful, but no prior LLM or Python tooling experience is needed.
