AERPAW Outdoor Demonstration

Register Here

Join us for a live demonstration of the Aerial Experimentation and Research Platform for Advanced Wireless (AERPAW) on Friday, September 25, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at NC State University's Lake Wheeler Field Laboratory.

AERPAW is a first-of-its-kind national wireless research testbed that enables experimentation at the intersection of software-defined radio, advanced wireless communications, and autonomous aerial systems. During this demonstration, attendees will experience how researchers transition experiments from a digital twin environment to a large-scale outdoor deployment using programmable radios, UAVs, and fixed wireless infrastructure. The Lake Wheeler site serves as AERPAW's primary outdoor experimentation facility, featuring multiple fixed radio towers, 5G infrastructure, edge computing resources, and autonomous vehicles designed for cutting-edge wireless research.

What You Will See

  • Live UAV flights integrated with GNU Radio and software-defined radios

  • Drone Operations Center (DOC) and other facilities

  • Demonstrations of advanced wireless experimentation workflows

  • Fixed wireless infrastructure supporting outdoor experiments

  • Discussions with the AERPAW team about current research projects and future capabilities

Location

The demonstration will take place at Lake Wheeler Field Laboratory, approximately 15 minutes drive from the conference venue. To familiarize yourself with the site before the visit, please review the AERPAW Deployment Areas and Fixed Node Locations map:
